It is GREAT to be 8!

Today my handsome little Keaton turned 8 and I am so excited for him!  Of course this means that he will be baptized in a couple months, but he is also now the cutest little cub scout.  A couple of days ago we were invited to the annual Blue and Gold Banquet and get a taste of what is in store.  He doesn't say much about it, but I think that he is very excited.
I have been an Activity Days leader in my ward for almost 2 years now, and I cannot believe that he is now as old as some of my girls!  Lately I have noticed how tall and lean he looks.
He really is growing up.
I wasn't going to let him open up his presents until after dinner when Chad got home from work, but he got all ready for school and did his chores and I couldn't say no.  So sorry, Chad.:)  I wish I had the video camera going, because him and Sam were both jumping up and down like crazy when he opened up his Mario Galaxy 2 that he had asked for.  He is more than ever all about the Wii and would play all day and night if we would allow it.  He also got some clothes, and some Lincoln logs that he was excited about as well.
We are so proud of Keaton.  Every year in school his teachers say how hard and quietly he works, that he works well with everybody and they love him in their class.  Every night when I help him with his homework he never ceases to amaze me with his smarts too.  This kid is AWESOME with math!

He is a terrific big brother and a joy in our home.

Happy Birthday Keek.  We love you!

Angel Day

It was just a year ago today that my little nephew Henry passed away.  And to be honest, when I sat down to do a post today, I tried to be positive, but all I could think about was how sad it still makes me to think about him.  I remember me and Erin's excitement over Henry and Jack, since they would only be 3 months apart, the buddies that they were going to be, and all the fun we would undoubtedly have with our boys, and it makes me sad.

This past year has been anything but easy; knowing that when we get together there should be two babies, not one, and having to watch Erin and Rob try to find peace at such a hard time.  I think I have said it before, but there isn't anything I wouldn't give to go back and have Henry live.  To have his birthday come and realize that we should be having a big party giving him presents and watching him eat cake was so hard.  I did not loose a son, but I still lost a nephew, and my son's playmate.  And when details of me and Erin's past conversations about our boys' future sneak into my head, it feels as if I am punched in the stomach and my heart aches.  It aches for what I was so sure was going to be, but wasn't.

I don't know why Henry's life was cut so short, but I do know that our Heavenly Father is over all.  And I am trusting in him, that even though this still hurts right now, one day he will make it be okay.  For now, Happy Birthday sweet Henry.  May you look down on us and see how much we love you and look forward to seeing you again.

Happiness Is... Part 2

A very clever friend of mine recently did a post that consisted of a list of things that made her happy.  (Thanks for sharing Michelle).  It was so enjoying to read and I went away thinking of what I would put on my list.  Then I realized that I did make a similar list 2 years ago.  (You can read it by clicking here.)  While those things do indeed make me happy, they are not what I would put on my list today.  It's funny how just a couple years can change your perspective. So here's my new list in no particular order:

1.  Sleeping in past 7:30 a.m.
2.  A clean house.
3.  Alice Springs Chicken from The Outback Steakhouse.
4.  Going to BYU football games.
5.  Oldies music (the 60s and 70s).
6.  Shopping for plants and flowers for my garden.
7.  Peanut butter M&Ms.
8.  Getting into my car on a cold day to find my seat nice and warm.
9.  Laughing so hard with my family that I end up crying.
10.  The Bachelor.
11.  Being taken out to eat so I don't have to cook dinner.
12.  Reading books with the kids.
13.  Soft tickles all over my back.
14.  My king-sized Sleep Number Bed. (It is just pure heaven).
15.  An ice-cold Dr. Pepper when I haven't had one in a few months.
16.  Rearranging the furniture in a room just because.
17.  Babies sleeping all through the night.
18.  My own checking account and money.
19.  Chad helping me clean the house and my boys doing their chores.
20.  Shark Week on the Discovery Channel, or any shark movie for that matter.
21.  Free 2-day shipping on Amazon.
22.  A nice hot bath.
23.  Hugs and kisses from the kids before they leave for school.
24.  Temple date nights with Chad and Joe Bandidos afterward.
25.  Anytime BYU beats the U:).

Mi Familia...

For Christmas, one of my Aunts gathered all the slides that my Grandparents had, and put them on CD's for all of the family.  After I got a peek at some of the pics on my Mom's copy, I was very eager to get my hands on them and get copies for myself.  I became so in love with many of them and ended up coping a couple hundred of them onto my computer.  I picked out just a few favorites to share here.  The picture above is of my Grandparents, on their wedding day I believe.  Aren't they beautiful?
This is my Great-Grandparents holding my Mother.  Great-grandma lived to be 100 and died just a few years ago.  She was a wonderful lady and I always admired her growing up.  We lost great-grandpa when I was just a baby, so sadly I never knew him.  He is such a nice-looking man, and definitely one I am excited to meet on the other side.
I love this one of my Grandpa holding my Mother.  He was such a handsome man.  We lost Grandpa the year Emmi was born and I miss him very much.
My Mom as a little girl. I had a hard time picking just one picture.  She was such a cute little girl.
Another one of my Mom.  Finally I know who to blame for my cheesy smile.;)
I Looooove this one of my Grandparents.
I found this one of my Mom and Dad, which I am guessing is not too long before they got married.
Gotta love my Dad's light blue suit on my Mom and Dad's wedding day.  Aren't they beautiful too?
I can't believe how young my Dad looks.
Another good one.  My Dad on the right, my Grandpa in the middle and 2 of my Uncles are on the left.
I was so excited to find this of my Brother and Sister.  They are too cute!
I was surprised to spot one of Me as a baby with Grandma, who I was named after.
I love it.
This one has to be my favorite.  On the far left you see my Dad, then Me, my brother J in front, my sister Abby in the back, and my cousin Nate in the front right.
And last but not least, this is Me again.  I couldn't figure out what was wrong with my face until I realized that those are Cheetos in my hand.  I must have just stuffed some in my mouth, which is very typical of me.  I am indeed a sucker for the junk food.

My Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Yes, I am borrowing words here from one of my favorite children's books, but nothing else describes how terrible my day really was.  This day was not today or yesterday, or even last week.  It was two weeks ago tomorrow, and here is where I feel even worse about it.  As you can see in my last post, it was the day that Chad's little brother got married.  I was looking forward to that day so much, and it did not go smoothly at all for me.  It was one of those days that nothing was in my favor.  For your sympathy, pity, enjoyment or for posterity sake, I will tell you all about it, but be warned, it is a long story.

My horrible day actually started the night before.  Here it was the night before the wedding and I was still without nothing to wear in Nicole's (the bride's) colors for the pictures and the reception.  Chad have given me a gift card for Christmas for clothes and so I was going to use that.  He got off of work early, but by time I made it into Provo, the one store that I had money for was closed.  Great.  So I go home empty-handed and wanting to cry that I will look so horrible and out of place at the reception.

Then, just before going to bed Chad reminds me to get my temple recommend out because I always keep it in my temple bag.  I pull it out and go to check the date on it, 100% certain that it is not expired and thinking "Oh, how terrible would that be if it was expired!"  Ha ha, yeah.  I pull it out and it expired back in June!  I have not been to the temple since May when Jack was born.  He was too little and still nursing to even think about leaving him that long.  Somehow Chad and I got off schedule because we usually go together to get them renewed, but his doesn't expire until next year.  Well, I kept hope that night that a phone call from my bishop would do the trick in the morning.

Chad and I get up at 5:00 a.m. to make sure we have the babysitter arrive and we leave in time to head up to Salt Lake.  We make it up to drop Jack off at my sister's house before heading to the temple, only to discover that my sister thought that I was bringing all of my kids to play at her house.  I guess her kids had been up for hours so excited to see them, and so they looked very disappointed that I left them at home.  It was a miscommunication, but I still felt terrible.

We arrived at the temple with just minutes to spare, but to my utter disappointment and because my recommend had expired so many months, more than a phone call was needed.  I was left in the waiting room feeling very left out while Chad went on ahead.

Oh, but the bad news is not over.  Chad, Jack and I head back down to Orem for the luncheon.  The plan was that I would change Jack into a nice shirt and tie for the luncheon, since we left so early in the morning and he was still in his pj's.  Only a few minutes before the luncheon started did I notice that the baby bottle filled with soy formula that Jack had refused at my sister's house had opened and spilled all over the inside of my bag, but most importantly all over Jack's change of clothes.  So, even though everyone at the luncheon was in Sunday dress, little Jack was in his footed striped pajamas...just peachy.  I know, it was not a huge deal.  But I really wanted him to look nice since we were dressed up and Nicole's family and some extended Hunsaker family was there too.  And now everything in my purse smelled like sour milk.

After the luncheon we take off for home.  We knew it would take awhile to get the kids dressed in their duds for the reception.  While I am busy ironing, and getting our stuff together Chad takes a nap, which honestly did not help.  We leave for the reception, back up in Lindon and it is a BLIZZARD!  It was a complete whiteout and we were forced to go super slow and make it there just in time.  The reception hall was absolutely charming and we were having a great time.  However, only about 1 hour into it Jack started to get fussy, since it was about his bedtime.  I held him while Chad and the kids had some dessert.  Then, it was my turn.  I was hungry so I gave Jack to Chad.  Jack got fussy and Chad had enough of him before I was even finished.  Chad was getting snappy with me and wanted to leave.  Well, I wanted to stay, but I was frustrated with Chad and Jack and was anxious to go home and put the day behind me.  So, we left.  I wished we would have stayed.  Not only did I miss the actual wedding ceremony, but I missed them cutting the cake, the garter, dancing.  I just feel like I missed it all and it makes me sad.

But anyway, we did leave.  We got on the freeway and headed home.  We left the reception about 7:00 p.m. and were only about a 35 minute drive from home.  We got to Orem and the University Parkway Exit and saw all the red brake lights.  Chad and I both had the thought to get off at the exit, but we ignored it.  We stayed on and just as we passed the exit we came to a complete stop.  To make the story here short (okay, too late for that) we were stuck on the freeway for 2 full hours! We maybe moved 3 car lengths in that period of time.  Big deal right?  Well, if you know me, I am claustrophobic and have major anxiety with traffic and being stuck anywhere.  This was my nightmare come to life.  Not only that, I had 4 kids in my car, who I was trying to pacify.  Keaton was the best of the bunch, and didn't complain much at all.  Emmi kept yelling to the car in front of us, "Hey truck, it is OUR turn!!"  Then, as the hours flew by, she started crying for her blankie and for some water.  Yes, I had no water, no food, nada.  Jack was good as long as I was nursing him, but cried the rest of the time and would not sleep.  But I felt the worst for Sam.  He was getting over a bad cough.  I had no water to help him when he started to really cough, so he threw up twice all over his coat.  He was crying for water as well.  It was breaking my heart.  Our saving grace was my new iPhone that Chad gave me for Christmas.  I was able to let the kids (and Chad) play games and even read stories to pass the time.  After being at a complete stop for 2 hours (and watching men get out and pee off the side of the freeway.  Thank heavens none of us had to go), we finally started to move.  It was now 9:00 and it took us another hour to get home, the roads were so bad.  We reached home just after 10:00, 3 hours after we had left the reception and I put myself right to bed.  Needless to say, I was very content to put the day behind me, and I will always carry a little water and food in my car.

Tyler and Nicole

On December 29th, Chad's youngest brother Tyler got married to Nicole Schaefer, and I could not be happier about having her for a new sister-in-law.  I had to share a few photos of their engagement and wedding.  They both looked so fabulous!!
Just got married in the Salt Lake Temple!
The couple with the Hunsaker siblings.

Congratulations "T" and Nicole! And Good-luck ;)  We can't wait to see what great things the years ahead have in-store for you!
